Description
For 2008 football recruiting the Iowa Hawkeyes check in with 6 verbal commits at this time. Per scout.com the Hawkeyes are presently ranked with their 6 commits at 44th nationally. By the Scout.com numerical rating the average recruit is at a 2.5 out of 5.
Leading the way is running back Jason Ford. Jason has a position rank of 28th nationally, rated a 4 star. Ford is 5-10, weighing 215 pounds. Going into his senior year Ford reports a core GPA of 2.0 with a 16 on the ACT. Obviously, grades and the test result are a cause of concern. In June DeMarco Paine of Kansas City verballed as a cornerback. Paine is a 3 star recruit. Joining Paine as cornerback recruits for the Hawkeyes are Shaun Prater, 2 stars, and Jack Swanson, 1 star. Continuing with the defense, the Hawkeyes received a commit from South Dakota defensive end Riley Reiff. Reiff has a position rank of #41 as a 3 star recruit who picked the Hawkeyes over such programs as Nebraska.
The only recruit on the offensive side of the ball at this time is 2 star center recruit James Ferentz. James is the son of head coach Kirk Ferentz.
It appears that with the recruiting abilities of Ron Zook at Illinois, and with the reemergence Of Notre Dame and Charlie Weiss, that Iowa is having difficulty in harvesting some of the Chicago area talent they had been getting.
