I am totally, totally BUMMED out. My number 1 team has finally won a game and by virtue of that victory gets removed from the bottom 5. DAMN YOU ucla, that’s right, you bruins don’t even get to be capitalized, loosing at home to the golden domers. Also coming off the critical list were the Rice Owls, who were able to stave off Southern Mississippi with the help of 7 turnovers. The Temple Owls also squeaked out a one point victory and are gone. But there’s no need to fear, other "totally horrible" teams are ready to step up and claim a spot. So here without further ado, is my new Bottom 5 Ranking.
- Florida International "yellow cats" – Now have an 18 game streak going and can finally stop sending me letters that by virtue of this streak, that THEY deserved to be NUMBER 1 over Notre Dame. FIU actually led during the first quarter of their loss against Troy, which really disappointed their fans but then they put it into reverse and came out the losers 34-15. Next loss, on the road to Louisiana-Monroe who is an impressive 1-4.
- North Texas "lame green" – Debuting at number 2 is quite impressive and will no doubt cause complaints from the Marshall fans, but consider this, they were destroyed by previously winless Louisiana-Lafayette 29 to 38. For the season the Green has been outscored 258 to 97 or an average game of 52-19, to run their record to an impressive 0-5 SWEET! Next loss will be to Louisiana Monroe
- Marshall "bumbling "heard" – Lost to Memphis 24-21 in a nail-bitter Saturday. With their 0 and 5 start their average game is 38-19, which is why North Texas gets the nod over them for the number 2 spot in this list. Next loss will be at Tulsa on Saturday.
- Colorado State "lambs – Now carries a 12 game losing streak second longest in the country including 0-5 this season with their loss to San Diego State. 30-23 average score is not quite as impressive as the other members of the bottom 5 and I believe they will be the next to leave this list. Next loss Air Force
- Utah State "maggies" – They were one of the first team this season to reach the magical 0-6 mark thanks to the Norte Dame fiasco against UCLA. They are impressive with an average losing game of 36-19. Next loss for them will be in 2 weeks against Nevada.
On the outside looking in: UCLA, Notre Dame, Nebraska and Texas
On another "Serious Loser" note; the number 1 & 2 teams on my listing actually play in the same conference, the Sun Belt. Not only that, but 5 of the 8 teams in the conference have a record of 1-4 or worse, making the Sun Belt, by far the worse conference in NCAA D-1 Football. WOW!
