While this is mostly a rumor, it’s being widely reported on and speculated about in Michigan.
According to the popular blog mgoblog.com, sources inside the Michigan athletic department have been informed that Lloyd Carr intends to announce his retirement win or lose after the Ohio State game this weekend.
Both Carr and athletic director Bill Martin have declined to comment on the rumors but neither actually denied them.
Carr has structured his contract so as to make it easy financially for him to walk away after this season. He also successfully lobbied for contracts that will pay his assitant coaches until 2009 regardless of whether they are still employed by the University.
These rumors come on the heels of reports a couple weeks ago that LSU coach Les Miles was looking for a house near Ann Arbor. Miles has a large buyout in his contract specifically in case of a possible move to Michigan, however.
Once again, these are rumors at this point but several media outlets have mentioned the possibility of Carr retiring as being strong at this point.
